Winter blooms in Capital with 2.4M flowers

abu dhabi — This winter season, more than 2.4 million flowers will be blooming along the streets and in the public parks of the Capital, the municipali­ty said.

The Abu Dhabi City Municipali­ty said it has started planting the seasonal blooms. About 2.35 million of them will be grown along the streets and about 133,262 in parks.

“This is to enhance the sceneries in Abu Dhabi in a way that keeps pace with urban developmen­t. It is aimed at helping improve the quality of life and well-being of residents by brightenin­g up their surroundin­gs,” said the municipali­ty.

Throughout the year, the civic body aims to plant millions of flowers across the city. This winter, the Capital’s residents and visitors can expect to see flowers like petunia, which is cultivated in its white, pink, and red colours, and marigold in yellow and orange.

The ornamental cauliflowe­r will be growing in white and red, and the Zinnia flower in white and salmon hues. Ajiratum, Marshmallo­w, Cosmos, carnations, rooster crest flowers will also be planted.

The city centre municipali­ty is working on planting around 1.6 million flowers, while the Shahama municipali­ty centre will cultivate 281,940. The Al Wathba municipali­ty centre aims to grow 261,500 flowers; 247,000 for the Zayed City Centre; and 95,048 for the Mussafah Municipal Centre.

“Ponds have now been prepared and dried flowers have been removed. The soil for the flower beds is now fertilised as well.”

Among the places that will soon be abloom are the Abu Dhabi Corniche Street; Al Maqar Street intersecti­on to Al Yazouh Street and Al Khaleej Al Arabi Road intersecti­on to King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Street; the central island of Mubarak bin Mohammed Street on Abu Dhabi Island, as well as Al Bahia Park.

Other areas include: Abu Dhabi Internatio­nal Airport, Al Rahba Park, Abu Dhabi Al Ain Street, Umm Al Nar Bridge, the entrance to Mohammed Bin Zayed City, and many other places located within the geographic­al scope of the municipali­ty of Abu Dhabi city and its subsidiary centres.
