The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE)- affiliated school heads have hailed the revised date sheet for the 10th and 12th board examinations. They have underlined that ample gaps have been given between the papers, bearing in mind the pandemic-triggered constraints.

The CBSE on Friday released a revised date sheet for the board examinations which will be held from May 4 to June 14.

The board’s new dates comprise several changes for both classes, including the revised date of examination for several key subjects.

Mohammad Ali Kottakkulam, principal, Gulf Indian High School Dubai, said: “The CBSE has been quite compassionate and considerate to accommodate the regional and pandemic-based constraints to modify the exam schedule. It’s a very positive and much appreciable move, thanks to the CBSE authorities. I trust that students are really going to benefit from these changes as they will get more days for the preparation of some subjects.”

For Class 10, the Science paper has been postponed from May 15 to May 21 and Mathematics from May 21 to June 2.

For Grade 12, the Physics exam has been rescheduled from May 13 to June 8. Similarly, Mathematics and Applied Mathematics exams will be conducted on May 31.

The Geography exam will be held on June 3, instead of June 2.

pointed out: “As per the revised CBSE date sheet for Grade 10, the major changes are mainly in Science and Mathematics. Ample gap has been given between papers; it will be utilised well by the students to revise and practice. Parents and teachers will constantly guide and support the students, so that they focus not only on academics but also on their wellbeing.”

While sufficient time has been given between the examinations of two main subjects in both classes 10 and 12, the aim is to reduce the stress on the pupils and help them in better preparation for the exams.

But schools also reinforce how students utilise the time off, depending on individual motivation.

Bushra Mansoor, head of Secondary, Springdales School, Dubai, said: “Any delay in the exam can have both positive and negative impacts. It will depend on the students’ attitude. It should be taken as an opportunity to utilise the time and prepare better. We, as a school, will have a very important role in ensuring that students keep their focus and spirits up. Their well-being must be a priority and positive reinforcement must continue.”
