The UAE is calling on its youth to get vaccinated and play their part in breaking the chain of infection, a top official said on Tuesday.

Saeed Al Nazari, director-general of the Federal Youth Authority, reminded that even after they take the jab, youngsters must continue to take precautions as Ramadan progresses. Residents as young as 16 years old can receive the vaccine in the UAE.

“The youth must continue to adhere and commit to the laws and guidelines after vaccinating, in order to achieve full recovery. Abiding by the rules is an individual responsibility and a national obligation,” Al Nazari said during the weekly Press briefing on the Covid situation.

The youth has been a huge part of volunteering initiatives when the pandemic struck, he added. “During the crisis, youth volunteers exceeded 50,000. Working to serve the community, through various places and time; whether in hospitals, quarantine and testing centres, airports, ports, and malls and via various campaigns.

The country’s youngsters have had to bear a bigger responsibility amid the pandemic, he said. “We are confident that the youth have the power to overcome the crisis and find practical solutions to contribute together in building a healthy and strong Emirati society. They are capable of providing integrated healthcare in innovative and sustainable ways.”

Al Nazari highlighted that youngsters must take care of their health and constantly communicate with their family.

“Psychological well-being is very important for the youth to remain positive in facing the challenges in life. They must communicate with family and psychological experts. They can also benefit from the authority’s services and use the guide that allows them to adopt daily habits that promote wellbeing,” he added.
