100m doses administered as vaccination drive stays course
More than 100 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines have been administered across Pakistan since the vaccination campaign was launched in February this year.
“Pakistan administers its 100 millionth Covid vaccine dose,” special assistant to the prime minister on national health services Dr Faisal Sultan tweeted on Saturday.
“I want to thank everyone who has made it possible from the public to vaccination staff to health and administrative staff and leadership across the provinces.”
The National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), the country’s nerve centre in its fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, also felicitated the nation on achieving the landmark and claimed that a total of 100,016,587 doses have been administered with some 681,520 administered in the past 24 hours.
In a video message, NCOC chief Asad Umar said: “Thanks to Allah Almighty, the number of vaccinations in the country today has exceeded 100 million.”
Around 68 million eligible individuals were administered the Covid-19 vaccines, he added.
“…Of whom more than 38 million have been fully vaccinated and 30 million have received a single dose. It is very important that people who have taken one dose get the second dose,” Umar added.
The NCOC chair underlined that single dose or partial vaccination ensured limited immunity and complete vaccination was necessary to ensure complete protection from the disease.
He said partially vaccinated 30 million people should get their due second vaccine shot to complete their immunisation.—
