Woman goes into labour at DXB, delivers baby safely
Dubai Police, other agencies pull out all stops to help Ethiopian travelling from Saudi to home country
The Dubai Police came to the rescue of an Ethiopian woman who suddenly went into labour as she was transiting through Dubai International Airport, with her three children.
“The traveller was resting in the transit stop at the Dubai International Airport when she went into throes of labour, said Major General Ali Atiq Bin Lahej, Director of the General Department of Airports Security at Dubai Police.
“Being with her three children,
the woman panicked and became worried because no one was with her to look after them and give her a hand,” he added.
Maj Gen Bin Lahej said she was returning to her homeland in Ethiopia from Saudi Arabia (Riyadh) on an Emirates airline flight.
The ambulance team of the Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services at the airport rushed to provide first aid to the traveller and transferred her to a hospital in record time to save her and her baby.
“They communicated with the operation room at the hospital to prepare the clinic to receive an emergency childbirth case, where she gave birth to a healthy baby.
The director of the General Department of Airports Security at Dubai Police stressed that police staff at the airport intervened swiftly to handle the situation professionally and assured the panicking traveller that they would get her the necessary care.
“The Dubai Ambulance team managed to transfer her to Latifa Women and Children Hospital, while the Dubai Police team joined by an employee from Emirates airline, provided full care for the children and transferred them to the airport hotel,” Maj. Gen. Bin Lahej added.
He directed a support and follow-up team to ensure coordination between all concerned parties at the airport to follow up on the children’s affairs.
“We made sure a team regularly checked in on the Ethiopian woman in hospital, and provided her with in-kind gifts, while facilitating procedures for her departure back to her home country in cooperation with partners,” he continued.
Maj. Gen. bin Lahej said Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services, Dubai Health Authority (DHA) and Emirates airlines all played a part in helping the woman have a safe delivery.
