UAQ court sentences man to death for killing girlfriend
An Asian man was sentenced to death on Wednesday by the Umm Al Quwain Misdemeanour Court for killing his girlfriend.
The accused was charged with the intentional killing of his partner by stabbing her. He also allegedly tried to commit suicide after the crime, investigations reveal.
According to police, the accused and the victim were in love and had planned to get married about eight months before the day of the crime.
However, their relationship turned sour after the man began getting suspicious that his girlfriend, also an Asian, was having affairs with other men.
The relationship soon descended into arguments and quarrels, and the marriage plans were put on hold.
On the day of the incident, the couple took the company transport to work like any other day. However, since the office was relatively empty at that time, the man took advantage and decided to confront the girl.
When she went to the washroom, he followed her and allegedly repeatedly stabbed her with a knife, causing injuries to her chest and abdomen.
One of the stabs proved fatal, as it pierced the left lung and cut a major blood vessel, causing profuse bleeding and vascular shock, which led to the victim’s death.
During interrogation by the Public Prosecution, the accused admitted that he had killed the victim by stabbing her several times. However, he said the victim was to blame as she had stabbed him first.
He said that when he asked her about their relationship, marriage plans and her affairs with other men, she went to another room returned with a knife and stabbed him. He said, he stabbed her in retaliation, while denying accusations of attempted suicide.
The trial was conducted via video.
