The following senior generals are in contention for the job of chairman joint chiefs of staff committee and the army chief: Lt-general Asim Munir, Lt-general Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Lt-general Azhar Abbas, Lt-general Numan Mahmud and Lt-general Faiz Hameed.
