The UAE has announced the launch of a Dh1 billion Emirates Villages project. It will develop Emirati villages from both an economic and touristic perspective.

This was announced by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-president and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on Twitter on Wednesday.

Sheikh Mohammed said that the first group of villages to be included in the programme will provide 500 economic projects for the youth.

The project outlines multiple developmental tracks, through which the Emirates Council for Balanced Development seeks to create a micro-economy in 10 villages, achieve greater involvement of local communities, enhance the involvement of the private sector, and advance the sustainable development model by enhancing cooperation between federal and local governments.

The project is aimed at creating economic and business opportunities to promote social stability and wellbeing.

Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Member of the Executive Council of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Emirates Council for Balanced Development, will lead the project.

The project was launched at the Government Annual Meetings.

The President, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, tweeted that he attended a session discussing the future of education. The sector remains “one of our key strategic priorities”, the President said.

“By harnessing innovation and investing in our people, the UAE’S journey of progress will continue,” Sheikh Mohamed tweeted.

The UAE will increase the support for salaries of Emiratis in the private and banking sectors under the Emirati Salary Support Scheme that contributes to the recruitment and training costs of Emiratis in the private sector.

The announcement was made by Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, the Board Chairman of the Emirati Talent Competitiveness Council (NAFIS).

The support will help boost the government's campaign to integrate locals into the private and banking sectors workforce, including allowances, bonuses, and other monetary incentives for UAE nationals. Over the next five years, the move will help create partnerships and support more than 170,000 beneficiaries in the private and banking sectors.

The decision covers all employees in the private and banking sectors irrespective of the date of joining their respective workplaces, i.e., including those who were hired both before and after the Nafis programme's September 13 debut.

Dr Abdul Rahman bin Abdul Manan Al Awar, Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation, said: “Raising the levels of Emiratisation will reflect positively on the national economy and will bring great benefits to the private sector in particular.''

According to 'NAFIS', a programme to increase the competitiveness of Emiratis helping them occupy jobs in the private sector, more than 14,000 Emiratis joined the private sector since NAFIS was launched in 2021.

Raising the levels of Emiratisation will reflect positively on the national economy and bring great benefits to the private sector in particular.
