AHOM LEADER REMEMBERED ON 400TH ANNIVERSARY
A traditional Ahom prayer during the closing ceremony of the year-long celebrations of the 400th birth anniversary of Lachit Barphukan at Vigyan Bhawan, in New Delhi on Friday. India is leaving behind the colonial mindset and is filled with a sense of pride for its heritage, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in his address on the occasion. Born on November 24 1622 in Charaideo, Barphukan was known for his extraordinary military intelligence in defeating the Mughals, halting the expanding ambitions of Aurangzeb in the Battle of Saraighat.
