Highlighti­ng how the MBRSC engineers had to undergo many trials and tests during the developmen­t of the rover, Dr Hamad Almarzooqi, project manager, Emirates Lunar Mission,

MBRSC, in a tweet by the DMO, said: “In September 2020, His

Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vicepresid­ent and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, launched the Emirates Lunar Mission, the first Emirati and Arab mission to the moon.

“The mission was tasked to send a robotic rover for the first time to an unexplored area of the moon. The rover will provide tremendous scientific data to understand the lunar surface and the internatio­nal scientific community will gain a lot of knowledge and understand­ing of it.

“Engineers at the MBRSC started to design and test the Rashid Rover and after going through many designs, it reached its final design. It is now ready to be launched. A lot of components (were developed) and many tests were done in the UAE. By the end of the mission, once successful, the UAE will proudly have its footprints on the moon.”
