QUIQUP, THE UKBASED LAST MILE OPERATOR THAT RECENTLY ESTABLISHED OPERATIONS IN DUBAI, SAYS THAT THE UAE LOGISTICS SECTOR NEEDS TO EMBRACE CROWD-SOURCING TO MAKE ËNAL MILE FULËLMENT WORK.

“Last-mile delivery in the region is growing at a remarkable pace, which makes solutions like ours ever more relevant. Consumers in the region are increasingly tech savvy and, like their Western counterparts, have now come to expect more out of their last-mile deliveries,” says Dani El Zein, general manager of Quiqup Middle East.

Quiqup caters to retailers of all sizes and across all industries, offering businesses samehour and same-day deliveries that they can pass on to their customers. The courier, like fetchr, is a tech-heavy company that is utilising disruptive models such as crowd-sourcing and geopinning to make last mile operations faster and cheaper.

“Despite the fact that Quiqup is not in fact a pure-tech player, since we do run an on-theground fleet, live support team, and operations - we are indeed a tech logistics company, bringing the efficiencies and convenience that solutions like ours can add to the last-mile experience,” says El Zein.

Quiqup uses artificial intelligence and machine learning to make decisions and provide efficiencies that are impossible for a human to make at scale. These capabilities power its decentralised fleet that is spread out across the city, in order to fulfil orders within a few hours, or at the customers’ convenience (time slot same-day deliveries).

However, El Zein says that in order to truly reduce the cost of last mile operations, crowdsourcing needs to become possible in the UAE market.

“Unlike our operation in London, where all our riders and drivers are part of the shared economy, crowdsourced as independent contractors to the business, our region does not accommodate freelance contractors and part-timers,” he says.

“As such, we cannot leverage our local community to fulfill last mile orders. Instead, we have to employ all our drivers full-time, hence increasing our overhead,” El Zein adds.

Quiqup uses artilcial intelligence and machine learning to make decisions and provide eflciencies that are impossible for a human to make at scale.
