Carrefour launches the world’s lrst sail-thru supermarket in Dubai

Logistics Middle East - - UPDATE -

Carrefour UAE has gone oë shore with its latest product innovation, the world’s first sail-thru supermarket, which was unveiled today at Dubai Marina by Hani Weiss, CEO of Majid Al Futtaim Retail.

Carrefour Bites and More by the Shore will be operational six days a week, from 10am to 6pm (subject to weather conditions) and will be capable of serving superyacht tenders, jet skiers and even beach goers.

The floating supermarket is expected to see the greatest demand from its order-fordelivery model, with yachts, sun bathers, jet skiers and any other people on the shore able to call the super market (056 400 3659) and have their order delivered via a skiff that is towed behind the floating mini mart.

There is also an Aqua Pod app that customers can download to order online.

The custom-built Aqua Pod will be able to serve yachts, jet skiers and beach goes at Kite Beach, Jumeirah Public Beach and Al Sufouh Beach within a 45-minute delivery window.

“Carrefour Bites and More by the Shore is a world-first for Carrefour and our industry,” said Hani Weiss, CEO, Majid Al Futtaim Retail. “More than ever, a successful business depends on continually reinventing itself to stay ahead of customer needs and expectations.”

In an interview with Logistics Middle East, he added that the floating supermarket’s back-end logistics would work very much like that of a land-based store.

“At night the Aqua Pod is alongside in the marina, and deliveries for replenishment of stock will be made in the early morning as with any of our other stores,” he said. A key difference, however, will be that Carrefour’s Sunset Mall branch in Jumeirah 1 will act as the hub, rather than its Distribution Centre in Dubai South.

“There are more than 300 products on-board,” added Weiss. “These include hot and cold snacks, ice cream, fresh food and beverages, and select non-food items such as sunscreen and over-the-counter pharmaceuticals.”

The custom-built Aqua Pod will be able to serve yachts, jet skiers and beach goes at Kite Beach, Jumeirah Public Beach and Al Sufouh Beach.
