Dubai Cus­toms is pre­par­ing for EXPO 2020 with an in­te­grated ar­ray of spe­cially-tai­lored new ser­vices and fa­cil­i­ties, ac­cord­ing to Ahmed Mah­boob Mus­abih, di­rec­tor-gen­eral, Dubai Cus­toms. “Th­ese in­clude a smart cus­toms clear­ance chan­nel to han­dle goods im­ported for the ex­hi­bi­tion with ex­clu­sive benelts and cus­toms fa­cil­i­ta­tions in fa­vor of EXPO par­tic­i­pants,” he says.

“Ad­di­tion­ally, we’re dig­ging deep into in­no­va­tion and technology, the use of ro­botic process au­to­ma­tion and ar­til­cial in­tel­li­gence to de­ter threats re­lated to cus­toms work,” he adds. “Th­ese are presently un­der study by our teams at Dubai Cus­toms. We’ve proudly been named the best gov­ern­ment en­tity supporting EXPO 2020 un­der the Dubai Gov­ern­ment Ex­cel­lence Pro­gram 2018.”

In fact, Dubai Cus­toms was closely in­volved in the bid­ding process. “We were part of the bid to host the Expo 2020 and there was a specilc el­e­ment to the bid talk­ing about the pro­cesses and pro­ce­dures for trade and how Dubai Cus­toms can bet­ter fa­cil­i­tate trade and pas­sen­ger move­ment,” ex­plains Mus­abih. “Based on our plans, we were also able to get ap­proval from the World Cus­toms Or­gan­i­sa­tion to be the host of the Au­tho­rised Eco­nomic Op­er­a­tor Con­fer­ence 2020.”

It will be the lrst time a coun­try from the Mid­dle East will host the con­fer­ence.
