HOW DUBAI CUSTOMS IS PREPARING FOR EXPO 2020
Dubai Customs is preparing for EXPO 2020 with an integrated array of specially-tailored new services and facilities, according to Ahmed Mahboob Musabih, director-general, Dubai Customs. “These include a smart customs clearance channel to handle goods imported for the exhibition with exclusive benelts and customs facilitations in favor of EXPO participants,” he says.
“Additionally, we’re digging deep into innovation and technology, the use of robotic process automation and artilcial intelligence to deter threats related to customs work,” he adds. “These are presently under study by our teams at Dubai Customs. We’ve proudly been named the best government entity supporting EXPO 2020 under the Dubai Government Excellence Program 2018.”
In fact, Dubai Customs was closely involved in the bidding process. “We were part of the bid to host the Expo 2020 and there was a specilc element to the bid talking about the processes and procedures for trade and how Dubai Customs can better facilitate trade and passenger movement,” explains Musabih. “Based on our plans, we were also able to get approval from the World Customs Organisation to be the host of the Authorised Economic Operator Conference 2020.”
It will be the lrst time a country from the Middle East will host the conference.
