World Children’s Day

-

First established in 1954 as Universal Children’s Day, this global observance which is now known as World Children’s Day, is celebrated on 20 November every year to promote awareness among the children and to improve child welfare globally. 20th November holds importance for children's rights as it was on this day in 1959 when the UN General Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child. It is also on this same date that the UN General Assembly adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

What significance does it hold?

World Children’s Day provides a platform to raise voices against the maltreatment of children, all over the world. Along with that, this day can also be taken as an opportunity to get inspired and work together to build a better and safe world for children.

How is it celebrated?

Educational institutions carry out various efforts to inform children about the importance of World Children’s Day and make them aware of their rights according to the Declaration of the Rights of the Child and Convention on the Rights of the Child.

In many places, certain events are held to attract attention towards the benefits of children. These events also prove to be beneficial for attracting media attention towards this global subject since media has a broader reach among the population and inspires most of the population.

How can we participate?

To participate in this Global observance day for children, one must be aware of the rights that children hold. Our children must realize their value and recognize what is best for them. So, it becomes our duty to make them aware of their importance and come forward in reimagining a better world for them.
