Sara Ali Khan’s road to stardom.

Honest, mature and unpretentious, this young Ms Khan is the one to watch out for

Sara Ali Khan hasn’t had it easy. One would imagine that considering her lineage, her entry into Bollywood would be a cakewalk. As it turned out, it wasn’t that sweet or simple. Her debut film Kedarnath with Sushant Singh got delayed and found itself mired in controversies. First, because of production issues and then because of religious fundamentalists picking a bone with its theme.

Jahanvi Kapoor, the other star-kid who she is compared to, already made her debut earlier this year and raced ahead with a hit (Dhadak). Fortunately, Simmba came Sara’s way and she lapped it up. With Rohit Shetty at the helm and Ranveer Singh as co-star, this is a big project. So probably for the first time we have a debutante making her mark with not one, but two big films, releasing in the same month!

But while Kedarnath might be her first foray on the big screen, the audience got a glimpse of what’s in store, with what can be considered arguably, a bigger debut – on the couch, having coffee with Karan Johar in the company of dad Saif. Somehow, over the years, a good performance on Kjo’s show has become quite the social media barometer to decide the coolth and wit of a star.

And from the looks of it, Sara aced it. The confidence she exuded, her mature take on relationships and the way she tackled every tricky question head on, were signs that in this day and age of Pr-ed actors mouthing inanities, we might just have found a level-headed, independentminded and opinionated future star.

For once, Karan didn’t shy away from addressing the pressing topics. But in each, Sara came across as a positive and progressive young woman.

She wasn’t coy neither was she brattish. She was simply… sensible. Then of course, there was the statement that won social media – where she spoke of her battle with PCOD. On some occasions, she even gave some good retorts to dad Saif. What a refreshing change!

If this was a teaser, we are now certainly waiting for the big picture. Congratulations Sara, welcome on the Bollywood Express!
