APPLE CINNAMON OATS IN FIVE

This recipe involves a nice play of spices with regular oats and is ready in no time. Great for mornings when you’re running late and need to pack some breakfast for yourself and yours truly.

SERVES: 1 INGREDIENT­S

● ½ red or green apple, finely chopped

● ½ teaspoon butter

● Honey

● Pinch ground cinnamon

● Pinch ground nutmeg (optional)

● 1 cup full cream milk or almond milk

● 4 tablespoon­s steel cut or regular oats

● 1 tablespoon almonds, pecans, or walnuts, roughly chopped

● Pinch salt

METHOD

● In a glass bowl, combine the apple, butter, honey to taste, cinnamon, and nutmeg (if using). Use a spoon to stir the ingredient­s until the apples are well coated with the mixture.

● Place the bowl in the microwave and cook for 1 minute. Remove and check; the apples should be slightly softened. If not, return to the microwave and cook for a few more seconds.

● Add half of the milk followed with the oats, nuts, and salt to the bowl, stir. Once again place the bowl in the microwave, cover with a microwave safe lid and cook for 3 minutes.

● Remove the bowl from the microwave, drizzle with more honey if you like, and stir in the remaining milk. Let the oats cool down for a couple of minutes before eating or packing.
