Mechanical Project of the Year
Voltas bagged the 2018 Mechanical Project of the Year award for its Dubai Trade Center District Phase 2 project.
The Dubai Trade Center District Phase 2 project posed a complex set of challenges; however, the firm’s past expertise helped in doing the background research, setting appropriate goals and achieving them by using an effective roadmap. This project involved plenty of meticulous detailing and several systems had to blend into seamless operation. The space involved was a large C2 Commercial Office Tower spanning 58,223m2 and C4 Commercial Office Tower with 43,770m2. Several teams had to work simultaneously and co-ordination, allocation of resources and timely completion was of great consequence.
The ventilation system installed at the DTCD project comprises 175 fans with duty/standby arrangement, installed throughout the project location. This ensures the exchange of fresh air and still air between the atmosphere and building to maintain the indoor air quality (IAQ), temperature Level and firefighting ventilation.
Talking about the challenges of the project, Prabhakar Kesavan (not in the picture; image of Syed Ilyas Ahmed, project director), commercial director for Voltas, said: “Basically, we had a very demanding customer that was particularly fixated on good quality. So we had to make sure that we met the very high standards of the Dubai World Trade Centre, and deliver to what they require. In addition, it was an internal challenge for us as well: we wanted to set a new benchmark for Voltas, and achieve it.” On Voltas’s vision, he said: “We have been in the region for a long time, and we are here for the long haul. We are known for reliability, quality and never walking away from a project.”
