Health and Safety Ini­tia­tive of the Year

Al Shafar United (ASU) won the Health and Safety Ini­tia­tive of the Year at the 2018 MEP Mid­dle East Awards.

In 2017, ASU cel­e­brated 10,000,000 Safe Man Work Hours Without LTI (lost-time in­jury) for Blue Wa­ters Res­i­den­tial Project. The ini­tia­tive of this firm has at­tempted to im­prove the health and well­be­ing of the work­force. For ex­am­ple, hav­ing on-site fit­ness pro­grams at var­i­ous project sites. In ad­di­tion, there was a monthly in­cen­tive pro­gram for safe be­hav­iour at the EXPO2020 project to boost work­force morale. The firm also pro­vided com­pre­hen­sive aware­ness and train­ing to work­force for on­go­ing learn­ing and devel­op­ment.

Talk­ing about the win, Khaled Shar­batly, gen­eral man­ager, ASU, said: “This award means a lot to us. Safety is one of our core val­ues and a part of our com­pany strat­egy. This recog­ni­tion proves that we’ve adopted the right poli­cies for health and safety, and it en­cour­ages us to pur­sue more safety ini­tia­tives next year.”

Al Shafar United for Elec­tro-me­chan­i­cal En­gi­neer­ing LLC (ASU) is an ISO 9001-2015, ISO 14001:2015, OHSAS 18001:2007 cer­ti­fied elec­trome­chan­i­cal flag­ship com­pany of ASGC Group. ASU was es­tab­lished as an elec­tro-me­chan­i­cal de­part­ment in ASGC in 1989, tak­ing part in devel­op­ment projects be­ing car­ried out in Dubai. In the year 2007, ASU was launched as an in­de­pen­dent Elec­tro-me­chan­i­cal Lim­ited Li­a­bil­ity Com­pany un­der the um­brella of ASGC charged to look after elec­tro-me­chan­i­cal con­tracts.
