BASKARAN RAMANANTHAM - ATKINS
Electrical Engineer of the Year
Baskaran Ramanantham, from Atkins, won the electrical engineer award at MEP Middle East 2018 awards.
Ramanantham served as the electrical design lead for the iconic Riyadh Metro Package 3 project, it’s a mass rapid transit system under construction in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and lines 4, 5 and 6 encompass eleven elevated stations, eleven deep underground stations, two shallow underground stations, two depots, three interchange stations, 33km of viaduct, 20km of tunnels and 9km of at-grade section constructed through some of the most congested districts in Riyadh.
Ramanantham has developed vital technical skills to tackle a wide variety of engineering problems in the fields of electrical energy systems and sustainable transportation infrastructure. Having spent a considerable amount of time on site, has developed a practical understanding of site constraints and constructability issues.
Ramanantham said after winning the award: “I’m buzzed after winning this award because there are so many electrical engineers working in the Middle East on such demanding projects. I’ve always been involved in design and build projects, which means I have been involved in the metro projects and aviation industry.”
