Elec­tri­cal En­gi­neer of the Year

Baskaran Ramanantham, from Atkins, won the elec­tri­cal en­gi­neer award at MEP Mid­dle East 2018 awards.

Ramanantham served as the elec­tri­cal de­sign lead for the iconic Riyadh Metro Pack­age 3 project, it’s a mass rapid tran­sit sys­tem un­der con­struc­tion in the King­dom of Saudi Ara­bia, and lines 4, 5 and 6 en­com­pass eleven el­e­vated sta­tions, eleven deep un­der­ground sta­tions, two shal­low un­der­ground sta­tions, two de­pots, three in­ter­change sta­tions, 33km of viaduct, 20km of tun­nels and 9km of at-grade sec­tion con­structed through some of the most con­gested dis­tricts in Riyadh.

Ramanantham has de­vel­oped vi­tal tech­ni­cal skills to tackle a wide va­ri­ety of en­gi­neer­ing prob­lems in the fields of elec­tri­cal en­ergy sys­tems and sus­tain­able trans­porta­tion in­fra­struc­ture. Hav­ing spent a con­sid­er­able amount of time on site, has de­vel­oped a prac­ti­cal un­der­stand­ing of site con­straints and con­structabil­ity is­sues.

Ramanantham said after win­ning the award: “I’m buzzed after win­ning this award be­cause there are so many elec­tri­cal en­gi­neers work­ing in the Mid­dle East on such de­mand­ing projects. I’ve al­ways been in­volved in de­sign and build projects, which means I have been in­volved in the metro projects and avi­a­tion in­dus­try.”
