Hack in the Box re­turns to Dubai this year

HITB Se­cu­rity Con­fer­ence in Novem­ber to fea­ture hack­ing, tech­ni­cal train­ing ses­sions

Af­ter an eight-year hia­tus, the HITB Se­cu­rity Con­fer­ence series is re­turn­ing to the Mid­dle East with the sup­port of gov­ern­ment or­gan­i­sa­tions, tak­ing place from Novem­ber 25th to the 28th 2018 at the Grand Hy­att in Dubai.

Fea­tur­ing two days of tech­ni­cal train­ing cour­ses fol­lowed by a two-day multi-track con­fer­ence, the event will also fea­ture a Cap­ture the Flag com­pe­ti­tion, tech­nol­ogy ex­hi­bi­tion with a fo­cus area on IOT and blockchain re­lated tech, space for mak­ers and hack­erspaces as well as a car hack­ing and hard­ware re­lated vil­lage. The event also in­cludes the Com­msec track, a free-to-at­tend track of 30 and 60-minute talks that will also be live-streamed on Youtube.

Hack in the Box (HITB) is an an­nual must-at­tend event in the cal­en­dars of se­cu­rity re­searchers and pro­fes­sion­als around the world. The event was hosted ear­lier this year in Am­s­ter­dam and Sin­ga­pore with the Bei­jing leg be­ing held next month.

HITB is part­ner­ing with UAE based com­pany Dark­mat­ter Group, the re­gion’s first and only fully-in­te­grated dig­i­tal trans­for­ma­tion, de­fence and cy­ber se­cu­rity con­sul­tancy and im­ple­men­ta­tion firm. In par­al­lel with HITB, Dark­mat­ter Group is or­gan­is­ing a busi­ness track called ‘Beyond Cy­ber’ where se­nior IT and C-level ex­ec­u­tives get to learn more on top­ics like Threat In­tel­li­gence, Dig­i­tal Trans­for­ma­tion and Cy­ber Trans­for­ma­tion.

The Dubai Elec­tronic Se­cu­rity Cen­ter is sup­port­ing and en­dors­ing the HITB Se­cu­rity Con­fer­ence as part of its ‘Dubai Cy­ber Se­cu­rity Strat­egy’, whose key do­mains in­clude in­no­va­tion, where the cen­tre is com­mit­ted to pro­mot­ing cy­ber­se­cu­rity re­search & de­vel­op­ment, in ad­di­tion to es­tab­lish­ing a se­cure cy­berspace in Dubai and in­flu­enc­ing it glob­ally.

Dr Bushra Al Blooshi, Head of Re­search and In­no­va­tion at Dubai Elec­tronic Se­cu­rity Cen­ter, said, “We are con­fi­dent that this event will have a huge im­pact on cy­ber­se­cu­rity not only in the UAE but re­gion­ally. The event will bring to­gether em­i­nent na­tional, re­gional and in­ter­na­tional ex­perts, and will tackle the lat­est in cy­ber­se­cu­rity chal­lenges as strate­gic com­po­nent of the dig­i­tal trans­for­ma­tion, in ad­di­tion to pre­sent­ing our gov­ern­ment and aca­demic part­ners with global train­ing op­por­tu­ni­ties.

“We are look­ing to sup­port Dubai gov­ern­men­tal ef­forts in its fu­tur­is­tic plans and ini­tia­tives by high­light­ing elec­tronic se­cu­rity chal­lenges in the fourth in­dus­trial revo­lu­tion era, among oth­ers,” Dr Al Blooshi added.

Or­gan­is­ers of the event have lined up a ros­ter of in­ter­na­tion­ally renowned speak­ers who will be dis­cussing the lat­est in cy­ber­se­cu­rity and how re­gional or­gan­i­sa­tions can pro­tect them­selves.

Jaya Baloo whose work on se­cure net­work ar­chi­tec­ture de­sign is in­ter­na­tion­ally recog­nised. Baloo has com­pleted projects rang­ing from Law­ful In­ter­cep­tion, Deep Packet In­spec­tion, VOIP and Mo­bile Se­cu­rity, to de­sign­ing na­tional MPLS in­fra­struc­tures and ISP ar­chi­tec­tures. Mikko Hyp­po­nen is a world­wide author­ity on com­puter se­cu­rity and the chief re­search of­fi­cer of F-se­cure. He has writ­ten on his re­search for the New York Times, Wired and Sci­en­tific Amer­i­can and lec­tured at the univer­si­ties of Ox­ford, Stan­ford and Cam­bridge. Hyp­po­nen has been listed on For­eign Pol­icy Mag­a­zine’s Top 100 Global Thinkers list. Jen­nifer Leg­gio, on the other hand , is the chief mar­ket­ing of­fi­cer for Flash­point, where she is re­spon­si­ble for driv­ing the com­pany’s mar­ket lead­er­ship and cus­tomer ac­qui­si­tion.
