Downstream experts will attend the GDA Conference and Exhibition slated for 23-25 October 2018 at Bahrain
The GDA International Downstream Conference and Exhibition, launched by the Gulf Downstream Association (GDA), is the largest downstream conference and exhibition of the year in Bahrain. Under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, Prime Minister, Bahrain, the GDA Conference 2018 will be held under the theme ‘Towards a Competitive Downstream through Innovation, Collaboration and Technology’.
The conference expects to host 4,500 attendees and 150 exhibitors, all with the sole purpose of strengthening the downstream industry and capitalising on the available opportunities. The GDA event boasts of a high-calibre of panellists who are experts in the downstream industry and can offer deep insights into the industry and what the future holds. Panels at the conference include intense discussions regarding the role of innovation, collaboration, and technology in the future of the downstream industry.
The panel discussion titled ‘Future of Fuels’ will discuss the future of the downstream business with a focus on the products demand, economics, and the outlook. The session will aim to share different opinions from refiners, consumers, technology providers and regulators on the future of the industry. Prominent speakers at this panel include Jean-jacques Mosconi, SVP, refining & petrochemicals, Total; Suleman A Al-bargan, VP, domestic refining & NGL fractionation, Aramco; David H Witte, SVP & division head – energy & natural resources, IHS Markit; and Jean Sentenac, chairman & CEO, Axens.
Another panel discussion on ‘Future of Energy’ will focus on the future of the energy demand and new technologies that will impact the downstream business. The session will aim to highlight the latest development in the future of the energy mix in the world and in the GCC, and its impact on the downstream industry. Prominent speakers at this panel include Dr Sun Xiansheng, secretary general, International Energy Forum; Dr Andrea Lovato, chief technology officer, ACWA Power; and David M Johnson, president and CEO, Achates Power. A third panel discussion entitled ‘Future of Margins’ will discuss the future of the refining margins and how to maintain competitiveness in the future environment. The session will provide insights into the characteristics of profitable facilities, integration and upgrade options, digitalisation and benchmarking with other regions.
Prominent speakers at this panel include Charles J Reith Jr, CEO, Solomon Associates; Norm Gilsdorf, president, Middle East, Turkey, Russia, Central Asia, Honeywell UOP; Othman Al-ghamdi, CEO, S-oil Corporation; and Mirko Rubeis, partner and managing director, BCG.
A roundtable on human capital will focus on the current challenges and the best practices in acquiring and developing talent in downstream industry. The discussion will also highlight the collaboration between academia, R&D and the downstream business.
