OFF THE BEATEN PATH

GO ANYWHERE, IN STYLE, WITH THE MASERATI LEVANTE GRANSPORT

Sharp Magazine Middle East (English) - - Auto -

Way back when we first spotted an early glimpse at the Levante, the storied Italian automaker’s very first SUV, we here at Sharp found ourselves deeply intrigued. The car looked, in a few words: pretty damn awesome. That’s why we were absolutely champing at the bit to drive the Levante Gransport here locally.

The Levante Gransport showcased at the lounge fully embodies the racing heritage of every Maserati. It is immediately recognizable for its front grille, skid plates and roof rails in Piano Black, for the red brake callipers and the 20” Nereo wheels. 12-way power sport leather seats, poweradjustable Sport steering wheel, elongated gearshift paddles, carbon trims and Soft Close Doors are blended to create an exciting, sport- oriented interior.

Not only does the Levante sound great, it’s audio system is on par as well. Harman Kardon Premium Sound system: 12- channel 900-watt amplifier, delivering rich and detailed sound quality, whatever the source: be it radio, MP3 player, iphone or audio streaming device. The 14 high-powered speakers are carefully sited

throughout the cabin, promising sublime sound for all on board. Bowers & Wilkins Surround Sound system: seventeen speakers, with mid- range drivers and rear-woofers made from Kevlar, have been strategically built into the SUV’S architecture, while a 1,280-watt amplifier ensures immersive sound for all on board.

To ensure that it can play its dual role of luxury SUV and go-anywhere four-by-four, the Maserati Levante features some of the most sophisticated air suspension technology in the world.

The Levante is the only SUV in its class equipped with mechanical Limited-slip Differential (LSD) at the rear axle. Fitted as standard, it guarantees the best traction in all driving situations. The asymmetric locking feature offers 25 per cent lock-up under power and 35 per cent under release.

Along with its advanced four-wheel drive technology, the Levante also benefits from an advanced active air suspension system that raises or lowers the vehicle according to need or preference. With six settings to choose from (including Park), the driver can select whatever height is appropriate for the road or terrain, from a high clearance for more challenging off-roading to a low setting for efficient and smooth motorway driving.

Thanks to its aggressive lines and voluptuous curves, there’s absolutely no mistaking its heritage. Performance-wise, the Levante features an electronic suspension with controlled damping and air springs, along with Maserati’s “Q4” intelligent all-wheel drive and an 8-speed automatic transmission. There’s no official word yet, but it’s expected to be available with the option of either a V6 diesel or V8 gasoline engine.

Built at the Mirafiori plant in Turin, Italy, the Levante isn’t just for the levant, it’s a car the entire Middle East can love.
