ALMAYASS

Almayass’s speciality delivers the goods

Shortlist - - THIS WEEK -

Checking out the speciality dish at this superb LebaneseArmenian eatery.

While you won’t be hard pressed to find Lebanese eateries in Dubai, food from the region fused with Armenian cuisine is a little less commonplace. Almayass is one such place and its Manti is worth the visit, alone. It’s a delight to the senses – ground beef is rolled with diced onion, tomato, parsley and pomegranate molasses and encased in hand-molded, boat-shaped doughy parcels. It’s served with a dollop of creamy yoghurt, a touch of smashed tangy sumac (berries native to the Middle East) sauce and vine tomatoes. Of course, there are variants of the meal across many countries, all claiming to be the Manti champion, but the super small size is characteristic of the traditional, centuries-old Armenian recipe and, for our money, the best way to have it.
