Who’s who of Dubai’s fitness world celebrated in glittering awards night
Gold’s Gym scooped the coveted Fitness Brand of the Year gong at last night’s FIT Awards, hosted at the Movenpick JBR hotel. More than 350 people attended the soldout bash, which celebrates Dubai’s booming fitness industry, with awards handed out for both individuals and businesses.
Organised by Sport360°, and in partnership with Skechers Performance, USA Poultry & Egg, and Illinois Soybean Association, the event is now in its fifth year and honours the UAE’s top professionals in the industry with award categories in both health and fitness. Kevin Roseano from MMC Sportz said: “As a proud sponsor of the FIT Awards, US Poultry stands for a healthy lifestyle and lean diet, so we’re delighted to be involved.”
A select judging panel chose the shortlists and winners from thousands of applicants from across the UAE’s fitness spectrum, working in more than 150 venues across the region.
Winners on the night included MEFIT PRO for Fitness Training Provider of the Year, UFC Gym scooped the top prize in the Franchised Facility of the Year up to 2,000 Members category and Rite Bite was recognised as the region’s Health Food Operator of the Year.
In the individual award categories, gongs were picked up by Paul Thornley for Instructor of the Year – Pilates/Yoga/Mind & Body, Matthew Graham for General/Club Manager of the Year and Ivan Pavlovic, who was recognised as the region’s Rising Star of the Year.
The evening kicked off with a black tie reception allowing guests to network amongst the top performing fitness industry leaders, shortly after Sport360° CEO Steve McLaughlin welcomed attendees with an opening speech.
A gala dinner and the awards ceremony followed with an after-party at Layali Lounge to conclude the evening.
Willow Stream Spa and Fitness Centre at Fairmont The Palm took home the award for Best Health Spa of the Year.
collecting the award spa manager Laura Brown said: “We are really surprised to have won.
“We’ve put a lot of effort into connecting the spa and fitness centre and it’s good to know that it’s actually working. That was a really tough category so we’re really pleased.”
Taking home the prestigious Fitness Event of the Year was Ultimate Racenight League sponsored by New Balance – Ultimate Athletics UAE. “We were hoping to win but not expecting to so I’m really happy,” said founder Lisa Campbell. “It’s our first time entering so I didn’t know what would happen, but I think the fact we appeal to all age groups and that we’ve had international athletes helped us win it.”
