Wel­li­ton wins it for Shar­jah

Shar­jah came out ahead in the bat­tle of the big guns as pro­lific Wel­li­ton’s sec­ond-half header earned a 1-0 vic­tory against Al Jazira in the Pres­i­dent’s Cup round of 16.

The Brazil­ian striker rose high­est in the 66th minute to con­vert com­pa­triot Igor Coron­ado’s cor­ner. This was the 32-year-old’s 14th goal in 15 matches this term and it earned the spoils for the Ara­bian Gulf League’s lead­ers ver­sus the third-placed chasers.

Else­where, Mali cen­tre for­ward Che­ick Di­a­bate scored all four goals for Emi­rates Club in a 4-1 thrash­ing of First Di­vi­sion League’s Hatta.

This was the strug­gling Fal­cons’ sec­ond win from nine matches in all competitions. Luan Dos San­tos had struck in the 46th minute to give last sea­son’s rel­e­gated side hope at 2-1.

A sec­ond-half own goal from Aj­man de­fender Mo­hammed Ali Shaker earned a 1-0 win for pro­moted Fu­jairah. Ex-UAE striker Saeed Al Kathiri’s vol­ley and Brazil­ian mid­fielder Diego’s penalty handed Al Dhafra 2-1 vic­tory over lower-league Dibba Al Hisn.

On Sun­day, Bani Yas bat­tle Al Nasr and Shabab Al Ahli Dubai Club meet yo-yo club It­ti­had Kalba.
