was a mas­sive sales hit, it’s no sur­prise that an­other ’90s PlayS­ta­tion icon will be res­ur­rected for mod­ern con­soles. Spyro is back, and be­ing suck­ers for nos­tal­gia, we’re pretty glad to see the pur­ple plat­form-hop­per.

The Spyro Reignited Tril­ogy is a ground-up re­make of the Spyro the Dragon, Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage!, and Spyro: Year of the Dragon. You’ll be fire­breath­ing your way through the same 100+ lev­els, but they’ve been given a ver­i­ta­ble HD bucket of paint, with spruced-up en­vi­ron­ments, re­vamped cin­e­mat­ics and light­ing ef­fects that wouldn’t have been pos­si­ble 20 years ago. Yes, it re­ally was that long ago. The con­trols have also been tweaked to make the most of to­day’s pads.

If, like us, you have fond mem­o­ries of the sim­ple plat­form­ing, wacky char­ac­ters (there re­ally aren’t enough skate­board­ing chee­tahs in games for our lik­ing) and brightly coloured worlds, you’re go­ing to have a tough time re­sist­ing this fiery blast from the past.
