T his month’s fashion editorial was shot in the magical city of Chefchaouen in Morocco. Called the Blue City, the houses – inside and out – are painted every shade of blue imaginable, simply because, as one resident explained, “we like it”.
Perched on a hillside, with ancient winding lanes and alleys that are far too narrow for cars, the city is like something out of a fairy tale (and remained magical even though we had to carry all our equipment up and down endless flights of stairs).
Our model is the rising star Niko, a Londoner of Sudanese heritage, who was hand-picked by photographer Timo Kerber for this story. Much in demand, Niko is used to shooting all over the world with the likes of David Sims, Tim Walker, Harley Weir and Rankin, so was thankfully unfazed by the incessant heat and attention that she drew against the azure walls.
Dressed in the vivid colours of autumn/ winter, Niko was the consummate professional, and embarked on the climbing of ladders and countless stairs – all in heels – with the barely perceptible shoulder shrug typical of a Londoner. She’s set for a stellar career, and we were lucky to catch her before she jetted off to New York for the start of Fashion Week.
