THE BLACK BOOK
Names, numbers and events of note
Before the city went into lock-down, we headed to Nasab, a membersonly workspace and social club nestled in Dubai’s Al Barari, to create a still-life shoot that captured the interplay between light and shadow. Lensed by The
National’s Antonie Robertson, the story focuses on the luxurious detailing of select pieces, chosen specifically for quality and, above all else, beautiful design. And where better to showcase them than in Nasab’s strikingly modern interior, created by renowned British designer Fran Hickman as “a space that blurs the lines between live, work and play”. Rough gesso walls were the perfect foil for Loewe’s plump balloon bag, and the sisalcovered steps artfully offset the psychedelic patterning on a Fendi dress. Chanel’s peachy Number 19 bag, meanwhile, played in the complex shadows of an Acapulco chair, as the carved tropical scene on a Dolce & Gabbana bag sprang into vivid life against a polished concrete floor. We hope that our minimalist story has maximum impact. www.nasabdubai.com
