Boys re­turn buoy­ant from Far East Asia trip

The UAE Un­der 17 World Cup team con­cluded their three-week camp in Kuala Lumpur on a high, win­ning the fi­nal game 4-0 against the Malaysia U19.

They will ar­rive at the Dubai In­ter­na­tional Air­port tonight hav­ing won three of their four friendlies, with a score­less draw against the In­done­sia U19 side. The team will have lit­tle respite, though, as they re­group on Tues­day, af­ter a two­day break.

They will con­tinue their train­ing in Dubai be­fore they head to Spain for the fi­nal leg of their prepa­ra­tion, in Spain, where they will play fel­low U17 World Cup sides Ar­gentina, Ivory Coast, Mex­ico and Panama in warm-up games.

The UAE will face Hon­duras in the open­ing night of the World Cup, on Oc­to­ber 17. Brazil and Slo­vakia, also in Group A, will play the early game at the Mo­hammed bin Zayed Sta­dium.

Rashid Amir, the UAE coach, said the re­sults achieved in the friendlies in Malaysia would help boost the con­fi­dence of his play­ers, al­though his ob­jec­tive was to ex­per­i­ment.

Khalid Khal­fan was on tar­get in the 15th and 18th min­utes, while sec­ond-half goals from Zayed Al Ameri and a penalty from Mo­ham­mad Ak­bari sealed the vic­tory over the Malaysia U19 on Thurs­day.

The UAE de­feated Sin­ga­pore U19 (4-0) and Malaysian U20 (5-2) be­fore the score­less re­sult against In­done­sia U19.
