An artistic response to the festival of colour
This month sees the Hindu celebration of Holi. The festival of colour marks the arrival of spring and is now celebrated across the world. In the 2014 release, Radhe Radhe: Rites of Holi, composer and pianist Vijay Iyer and filmmaker Prashant Bhargava responded to Russian composer Igor Stravinsky’s Le Sacré du Printemps (The Rite of Spring) with a 35 minute film about the festival. Now at New York University Abu Ahabi, the International Contemporary Ensemble will join Iyer to perform the score alongside Bhargava’s footage. It promises to be a lively descent into the streets of India. The event takes place at the Red Theatre on March 30 and 31 at 8pm. The event is free. For more information visit www.nyuad.nyu.edu.
