Appreciate beauty inspired by ancient history
The Museum of Fine Arts in Boston is currently showing Past is Present: Revival Jewellery, an exhibition of 70 items of adornment from pre-history, classical antiquity, ancient Egypt and the European Renaissance. The show pairs artefacts from the past 4,000 years with more modern interpretations made from the 19th-century revival movement to the present day. Highlights include: a 1924 brooch, on loan from Cartier, paired with an Egyptian winged scarab; an 1850s embellished gold brooch by Castellani; and a Renaissance revival necklace designed for Tiffany & Co around 1900. Past is Present: Revival Jewellery runs until August 19, 2018 (www.mfa.org).
