Learn more about Moroc­can cal­lig­ra­phy in Paris

As part of this year’s Paris Book Fair, the In­sti­tut du Monde Arabe is host­ing an ex­hi­bi­tion of rare manuscripts from the mu­se­ums and li­braries of the Royal Archives of Morocco that have rarely or never trav­elled out­side the king­dom. The manuscripts date from the 9th cen­tury and in­clude Qu­ranic cal­lig­ra­phy as well as mod­ern in­ter­pre­ta­tions of cal­li­graphic script. Book­bind­ing, gild­ing and the craft of dec­o­rat­ing an­cient texts is ex­plored, as well as the re­la­tion­ship be­tween writ­ing and pro­duc­tion and the other vis­ual arts such as ar­chi­tec­ture. Splen­dours of Writ­ing in Morocco is be­ing shown at the In­sti­tut du Monde Arabe un­til April 6 (www.imarabe.org).
