Learn more about Moroccan calligraphy in Paris
As part of this year’s Paris Book Fair, the Institut du Monde Arabe is hosting an exhibition of rare manuscripts from the museums and libraries of the Royal Archives of Morocco that have rarely or never travelled outside the kingdom. The manuscripts date from the 9th century and include Quranic calligraphy as well as modern interpretations of calligraphic script. Bookbinding, gilding and the craft of decorating ancient texts is explored, as well as the relationship between writing and production and the other visual arts such as architecture. Splendours of Writing in Morocco is being shown at the Institut du Monde Arabe until April 6 (www.imarabe.org).
