Be spoiled for choice in London’s auc­tion houses

Next week marks a high point in the arts cal­en­dar as London’s ma­jor auc­tion houses hold their Is­lamic arts sales. Sotheby’s is hold­ing two sales, one ded­i­cated to Ori­en­tal­ist art (April 25) and the other to Arts of the Is­lamic World (April 26), which will in­clude a col­lec­tion of Ot­toman tex­tiles (www.sothe­bys.com). Christie’s Arts and Tex­tiles of the Is­lamic and In­dian Worlds sale (April 28) in­cludes fine Iznik pot­tery and a rare sil­ver-gilt, turquoise-in­laid, writ­ing set from 19th-cen­tury Qa­jar Iran (www.christies.com). While ri­val house Bon­hams’s Is­lamic and In­dian Art auc­tion on April 25 in­cludes ex­cep­tion­ally fine tex­tiles, fur­nish­ings, cloth­ing, jew­ellery and glass­ware (www. bon­hams.com).
