Be spoiled for choice in London’s auction houses
Next week marks a high point in the arts calendar as London’s major auction houses hold their Islamic arts sales. Sotheby’s is holding two sales, one dedicated to Orientalist art (April 25) and the other to Arts of the Islamic World (April 26), which will include a collection of Ottoman textiles (www.sothebys.com). Christie’s Arts and Textiles of the Islamic and Indian Worlds sale (April 28) includes fine Iznik pottery and a rare silver-gilt, turquoise-inlaid, writing set from 19th-century Qajar Iran (www.christies.com). While rival house Bonhams’s Islamic and Indian Art auction on April 25 includes exceptionally fine textiles, furnishings, clothing, jewellery and glassware (www. bonhams.com).
