The Devil and Webster Jean Hanff Korelitz Faber, April 14

Korelitz’s latest novel tackles the febrile sea of activism and opinion of contemporary US college campus life. Naomi Roth is the first female president of an elite New England college and when a popular professor is denied tenure, accusations of racism and protests abound.

The Shape of Bones Daniel Galera Hamish Hamilton, April 6

This coming of age story finds a man preparing to climb a mountain but, instead, he is drawn back to the slums of Porto Alegre in southern Brazil where he grew up, survival gear still in tow. Galera is a young Brazilian novelist and translator with a growing reputation.

A Little More Human Fiona Maazel Graywolf, April 4

Nursing assistant Phil Snyder has an unusual pastime: on weekends he dresses up as superhero Brainstorm and reads minds at children’s parties. Maazel’s endlessly twisting plot blends comedy, satire, science fiction, and a literary whodunnit. Enormous fun.
