Learn about an ancient Bronze Age city-state

Re­cent ex­ca­va­tions at the Bronze Age site of Tell Atchana in the Orontes val­ley in south­ern Turkey is the sub­ject of the an­nual Oliver Gur­ney Me­mo­rial Lec­ture be­ing held at the British In­sti­tute at Ankara. The lec­ture is be­ing given by As­lıhan Yener, a pro­fes­sor at the Ori­en­tal In­sti­tute, Univer­sity of Chicago, and an ar­chael­o­gist at Koç Univer­sity, Is­tan­bul. Yener is a lead ar­chae­ol­o­gist in the dig as well as a pub­lished au­thor on the ancient Hit­tite city-state of Ancient Alalakh. She will ex­plain re­cent finds, sa­cred ar­chi­tec­ture and burial prac­tices. Sa­cred Land­scapes and Alalakh is be­ing held on May 18 from 6.30pm. For more in­for­ma­tion, visit biaa.ac.uk.
