The drawings of a Renaissance genius
Despite dying at the young age of 37, Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino, aka, Raphael, left behind a significant body of work. This exhibition in the UK focuses on the Italian Renaissance artist’s magnificent drawings. The exhibition brings together 120 works from the Ashmolean’s collection, along with more stunning works from museums such as the Louvre and the Uffizi. Drawings on display include his “Head of a Muse”, as well as “Heads and Hands of two Apostles”, which is considered by some to be one of Raphael’s finest. Raphael: The Drawings runs at the Ashmolean until September 3. For more information visit www.ashmolean.org.
