Regional summit in doubt
NEW DELHI // A key South Asian summit was in doubt yesterday after India and three other countries pulled out following a deadly attack on an army base that New Delhi blames on a Pakistan-based group.
India sought to isolate Pakistan after the raid on its base – which killed 18 soldiers – in the disputed region of Kashmir.
On Tuesday, it said prime minister Narendra Modi would not attend the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation summit in Islamabad in November.
A senior Pakistani foreign ministry official said the meeting would be postponed following the withdrawals.
Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Bhutan also announced their withdrawal.
