Mattis welcomed to Kabul with rockets
US defence secretary Jim Mattis and Nato chief Jens Stoltenberg renewed their commitment to Afghanistan yesterday, as insurgents fired rockets that killed one person and wounded four in the capital Kabul. A volley of rockets landed on a house near Kabul international airport hours after Mr Mattis flew in, the interior ministry said. The assault was claimed by the Taliban, which said the missiles had been aimed at Mr Mattis’s plane.
