ASSAULT ON RECORDS BOOK

-

Pep Guardiola’s men have broken the record for most consecutive wins in the Premier League with their streak at 16. Here is a look at other milestones that may fall before the end of the season if City can maintain their current form:

▶ Wins in a season Chelsea’s 30 from last season is the record. With City on 17 already they will need 14 wins from their remaining 20 games to eclipse Chelsea’s mark.

▶ Goals in a season Chelsea’s 103 in 2009/10 is the benchmark. City, on 58, need another 46 to beat that. If they continue to average 3.4 goals a game they will finish with 126 goals.

▶ Points in a season Chelsea 2004/05 reached 95 points. City are on 49 at present, and with a maximum 60 still to be won, just need 47 more to surpass Chelsea.

▶ Games unbeaten City did not lose any of their final eight games of 2016/17. Including that in this season’s 18 games, they are 26 games unbeaten. Arsenal hold the record at 49. Even if Guardiola’s men finish this season unbeaten they would end the campaign on 46 and would need to avoid defeat in the first four games of 2018/19 to surpass Arsenal’s mark.

▶ Most clean sheets Chelsea kept 24 in the 2004/05 season. City are on eight at present and would need 17 shut-outs in their remaining 20 fixtures to add that record to their list of achievements come the end of season in May.
