Mexican football fans have scored a visa waiver to cheer on their nation’s top side at the Fifa Club World Cup in the UAE in December.

The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation and the Secretary of Foreign Affairs of Mexico signed a visa-free travel agreement to encourage fans to make the trip from Latin America to the Middle East in support of Mexico’s Liga MX champions, C D Guadalajara.

The showpiece tournament, featuring seven club champions from around the world, will kick off on December 12.

Defending champions Real Madrid will be favourites to retain their crown, while Al Ain FC will represent the UAE.

Aref Al Awani, tournament director of the local organising committee, said Mexicans were known for their love of football and the visa waiver would ensure more passionate fans could attend the tournament.

“We look forward to welcoming even more fans to Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the UAE in December,” Mr Al Awani said.

CD Guadalajara will play in the quarter finals in Al Ain on December 15.
