Nigerian Shiite Muslims say troops killed 27

-

Nigeria’s Shiite Muslim movement said troops killed 27 of its members during a religious procession to the capital Abuja. Ibrahim Musa, spokesman for the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, said six people were killed on Saturday and 21 on Monday. The military admitted shooting six but said the protesters fired on soldiers. Mr Musa said the procession coincided with a protest for the release of their leader, Ibrahim Zakzaky. He was jailed in December 2015 after the military killed hundreds of Shiites in the city of Zaria. Nigerian Muslims are mainly Sunnis and Shiites say they face persecution.
