Good take-up for scheme to boost young Emiratis’ career prospects

-

Emirati school and university students can apply to take part in an initiative designed to boost their employment prospects.

Al Ghurair Young Thinkers Programme is geared towards preparing young minds as they get ready to enter the job market for the first time.

The scheme will be open to those aged between 15 and 25 years old and will focus on ensuring a successful transition between school and university.

More than 2,000 Emiratis registered to take part in the programme within 72 hours of its launch, the state news agency Wam reported yesterday.

“We are committed to offering young Emiratis access to the latest innovations in university and career-readiness,” said Abdul Aziz Al Ghurair, chairman of the Abdulla Al Ghurair Foundation.

“We are confident that the Al Ghurair Young Thinkers Programme will support efforts to build national human capital that is capable of coping with change across different economic sectors, internalising the attitude of competitiveness and success and building the future that the Founding Father of the UAE, Sheikh Zayed, aspired to.

Academics at Arizona State University have been working with the foundation for more than a year to design the programme.

The scheme offers a fully digital, web-based platform that enables students to develop the type of skills required by employers.

Information about trends in the job market and educational advisers to interact with students is all part of the initiative, said Maysa Jalbout, chief executive of the foundation.

Workshops and training courses will also be held across the country to support young Emiratis during the transition from their studies to the job market.
