An Emirati boy, 4, drowned in a washing machine at a home in Ajman.

Detectives believe he climbed into the machine in the family’s laundry room and closed the door.

The machine’s wash cycle then activated, locking the boy inside and drowning him.

“The washing machine was filled with hot water and started spinning after it was automatically turned on and the boy died from suffocation and drowning,” said Lt Col Yahya Al Matroushi.

“The boy was found by his mother after she arrived home. His uncle managed to pull him out of the washing machine after he broke the door.”

Police received reports of the tragedy on Thursday and immediately sent officers and emergency services to the scene.

Lt Col Matroushi called on parents to keep a close watch on their children and to keep them away from any potential hazards.
