Free health insurance for needy residents
More than 100 residents facing financial struggles will be given free health insurance under a government initiative.
The Dubai Health Authority has unveiled the Year of Zayed Insurance card, which will provide coverage of up to Dh150,000 a person, to pay tribute to the generosity of the Founding Father.
It is the latest in a series of projects led by the health authority during the Year of Zayed, marking the centennial anniversary of the birth of Sheikh Zayed.
The scheme, in partnership with private sector insurers, aims to ensure people are not priced out of vital health care. The card was rolled out at a ceremony at Al Etihad Museum.
Humaid Al Qutami, director general of the authority, said the Year of Zayed helped it to “reinforce the values” of Sheikh Zayed.
“Our Founding Father was known regionally and globally for his humanity, generosity and charity,” Mr Al Qutami said. “Under the guidance of our leaders, DHA aims to continue the legacy of our Founding Father.
“The UAE is known globally for its philanthropic work and we will continue our humanitarian initiatives to the best of our ability.”
The authority has also helped scores of children with congenital heart problems to receive free surgery during the Year of Zayedand contributed to building 100 freshwater wells to needy people across the globe.
It has pledged to play a key role in the UAE’s Year of Tolerance in 2019.
