Mother of the Nation Festival returns to Abu Dhabi with new attractions
The fourth Mother of the Nation Festival in Abu Dhabi will coincide this year with the Special Olympics World Games.
To mark the occasion, there will be a Special Olympics zone and Cirque du Soleil’s first appearance in the capital.
The festival, which runs from March 12 to 23, pays tribute to the legacy of Sheikha Fatima, widow of the Founding Father Sheikh Zayed, chairwoman of the General Women’s Union and President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood.
The Special Olympics World Games will be staged in the emirate from March 14 to 21.
The festival will also highlight the Year of Tolerance. Visitors can enjoy performances, take part in workshops and engage in a variety of activities.
Abu Dhabi’s Corniche will host musical performances, art exhibits, interactive workshops, a gaming championship and a happiness zone.
“This engagement embodies the pillars of the Year of Tolerance and the values of the Mother of the Nation in honouring people of determination by providing them with an inclusive environment,” said Saif Ghobash, Undersecretary at Abu Dhabi’s Department of Culture and Tourism.
Cirque du Soleil will perform Bazzar, where acrobats, dancers and musicians will pay homage to the group’s legacy.
The show is set to run from March 6 to 16 on Yas Island.
Ticket prices for the festival are yet to be announced, but those for Bazzar range between Dh195 and Dh1,495 and are available online.
