HISTORY OF THE GAMES

In 1968, Eunice Kennedy Shriver, sister of former American President John F Kennedy, founded the Special Olympics. She had a sister with an intellectual disability and wanted to see a change in society.

She saw the power of sport and how it offered a catalyst to change. The World Games Abu Dhabi 2019 will mark not only the 50th anniversary celebrations, but also the beginning of the next 50 years of the inclusion movement.
