Carapaz wins at Giro as Roglic stays in lead

Eduador’s Richard Carapaz won Stage 4 of the Giro d’Italia yesterday, as Slovenian Primoz Roglic retained the overall leader’s pink jersey. Tom Dumoulin, the 2007 champion, lost around four minutes following a crash that also held up several overall contenders. The Dutchman crossed the finish line surrounded by his Team Sunweb teammates, with blood dripping from his left knee. Among those held up were two-times champion Vincenzo Nibali of Italy and Briton Simon Yates, who limited the damage by only losing 16 seconds to Roglic. Team Jumbo-Visma’s Roglic leads Yates by 35 seconds and Nibali by 39 going into today’s fifth stage.
