ONCE LOST IS GONE FOREVER

In workshops across Gaza, craftsmen and women toil at trades handed down through the generation­s. The city was once famous for its clay pottery, colourful glassware, bamboo furniture and ancient frame looms weaving bright runs and mats. But a global decline in age-old skills and falling demand for handmade goods is felt more acutely in Gaza. From about 500 looms working at the peak of demand, only one is still functionin­g today
