Diamond stolen from Japan jewellery fair
Japanese police are investigating the theft of a 200 million yen (Dh6.75m) diamond from an international jewellery exhibition near Tokyo. The 50-carat diamond was last seen on display inside a glass showcase at 5pm on Thursday. An hour later, just after closing time, the diamond was gone and the jewellery case unlocked. Police yesterday said they suspect the theft took place sometime in the final hour of the exhibition in Yokohama, near Tokyo. Investigators are checking security camera footage that showed a man reaching towards a showcase during the suspected time of theft. About 410 jewellers from around the world gathered for the three-day exhibition that ended on Friday.
