Chile’s leader dismisses Cabinet to quell unrest
Chilean President Sebastian Pinera announced a major government reshuffle at the weekend, a day after more than one million people took to the streets in a protest for economic and political change. “I asked all ministers to resign in order to form a new government and to be able to respond to these new demands,” Mr Pinera said on Saturday. The military also said that an overnight curfew would be lifted on Saturday. The government has been struggling to craft a response to deadly protests sparked by a rise in metro fares but fuelled by a list of economic and political demands that include Mr Pinera’s resignation.
